I went through a period on and off of playing Star Wars Battlefront, and it started with my curiosity when I watched my brother playing the first one years ago. Only now, we got the second game.
I had played a few times and wasn’t that great but yesterday I decided to go back to playing the game.
My skills have improved recently, which surprises me greatly since I have rarely played this game, but once you know what you’re doing, it’s not as tough as it looks!
Last night I played a few Conquest matches, and my most recent one on Utapau was close, but exciting. I was playing as the CIS against the Republic. The battle was close to a tie in the number of troops, so I tried to capture as many Command Posts as possible, and killed whatever got in my way.
Depending on the map you’re on, you can be a certain main character, so for this map I took whatever opportunity there was to play as General Grievous.
Do you ever get that moment when you play as one of your favourite characters in a video game, and you totally end up kicking some serious butt with them? Hell yeah, that’s what happens whenever I start to play as Grievous in a Conquest match!
I charged in to battle, and slaughtered those clones. I could hear them shouting things like: “We’ve got Grievous on the battlefield!” or “Target Grievous!” But I killed them before they could defeat me, and I took out every AT-RT Walker I saw, and then to gain the upper hand even more, I charged straight for one of the CPs that the Republic gets at the start of the match, and tons of clones were spawning there.
I literally destroyed all of them as Grievous, captured the CP, and we won.
There was even a time where I decided to play on the Republic for a Conquest match on the same location and the AI Grievous was coming towards me, and I was just a clone. I kept jumping away from him and then I defeated him. I’m just like wow.
So apparently there’s this coming……
Aside from Halo 5 Guardians, I am looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront III too.
But something that is very off-putting for me is how multiplayer focused the game is going to be. In Battlefront II you have the option of doing CTF, Conquest, or whatever other modes there are available to you either by yourself with AI allies and enemies, or with other players.
The thing I like about that is that if you’re just looking to have fun, and not worry about getting your butt creamed by highly skilled competitive players. Then it’s good to be able to do Conquest matches by only you as the one actually playing if you know what I mean. I’m the type of gamer who likes to have fun, so if I’m playing by myself, I’m with AIs. If I’m playing with maybe one other person, I want to be on the same team as them. Example: Me and them on the side of the Rebels.
Now, if I were to put myself in the shoes of the game developers for the Star Wars franchise, I can understand why it’s a good idea to avoid revealing too much, months before the game’s release. Revealing things featured in the game early in advance is sometimes risky. You know what it’s like, one wrong word about a new feature or an old feature being taken away, and the fandom explodes.
But at the same time, keeping their mouths shut about it for a while keeps us getting concerned. I don’t want this game to be too competitive-focused, otherwise how am I going to enjoy it?
I love how the first gameplay trailer seems to have good graphics on everyone’s favourite Hoth battle, and I’ve been a fan of the original trilogy for years, but I love the prequel trilogy too.
There has been no word on what worlds we can choose from, but I bet that planets like Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, Dagobah, Yavin 4, Bespin and the Death Star are going to be in it. But what about planets like Geonosis, Kamino, Couruscant, Naboo, Mustafar, Utapau, etc.? As I said, I love the original trilogy, and it’s what made me a fan of Star Wars first, but I love the prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars too.
We don’t know if we will have the option to do the Clone Wars or the Galactic civil war yet on any of these locations and that concerns me as well.
As for playing as main movie characters: We have Luke, Vader and Boba Fett confirmed, but what about Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, General Grievous (especially Grievous!), etc? I mean, the last Battlefront game came out in like, 2005 was it? Yes, it’s an old game but I love the variety it offers. Something for the fans that love the entire saga and are more open-minded with Star Wars in general. It’s basically a game for all fans rather than a specific group.
Them keeping quiet about the whole thing almost concerns me as if, what if they don’t include that either?
So far, Battlefront III only seems to target the competitive community, plus the people who may prefer the original trilogy over the prequel, and if you’re either more of a prequel person, or a fan of both, this complicates things.
This is the problem with video game franchises these days. It’s like, they only listen to what the larger, more mainstream (and sometimes competitive) side of the their fans want. Then they make a game of it, and for groups of fans that want something different, and don’t get it, we are left with only disappointment, even refusal to buy new games by this franchise until they give us what we want. But it all depends on how much faith you have.
Right now, I like how I know for a fact we’ll be able to wage some epic battles on classic places like Hoth. But, I’m not the type of person who likes to play against other people. I hope this game doesn’t just have a mode where you have to play online with other people. It’s not that I’m not a social person, it’s just that gaming online gets competitive and I find that I don’t enjoy myself when I lose to players who are better than me. This is definitely is due to the fact that they spend their entire free time gaming, while I have other hobbies besides that, and am more a casual gamer. I just want to have fun, and if I get beaten all the time due to bad luck or lack of skill, I’m no longer having fun. I don’t play to win, but losing consecutively takes the fun away.
Since there has been no announcement that we can choose from some planets I like to battle on, the option of Galactic Civil War or Clone Wars, and the possibility of playing as movie characters from the prequel trilogy as well as the original….that has not fully turned me on to this game.
I’m probably gonna wait for reviews to pop up before I even consider getting this game, I’m only spending my money on it if it’s worth it.
