Ah another nomination, I’ve had two in the last 48 hours, but life has been happening, so I sometimes can’t fit writing about all of them! So, I decided I’m going to do this one since it’s the first time I’m getting this award.
She writes some really good stuff and is an active participant in these types of awards in this little community. Here are the questions she left for me.
1. What are you currently binge watching?
The Office with my mom. I don’t know what made us start watching it, we just decided we were going to. At first, we didn’t understand the appeal of it since a lot of things we saw were politically incorrect. Michael Scott was often racist and sexist at times, but over time we eventually found the humor in the show and we couldn’t stop watching.
I love Jim and Pam, they are so adorable together and when they finally became a couple, I started cheering. Dwight is hilarious and not to mention a geek, but I definitely do not like Angela, she’s grumpy and bossy all the time and when she smiles, it’s a rare phenomenon. The only thing I do like about her is that she is a cat lady.
2. What quirks do you have?
Oh I see what we are talking about here.
I have several peculiar interests which shouldn’t be a surprise since I’m on the spectrum. For example I’m quite fond of natural disasters like tornadoes.
I also have a thing for Barbie movies which I binge watched a bunch of them one summer even though I stopped playing with the dolls by the time I was in sixth grade. I guess Barbie never really leaves you even if you think you’ve outgrown her, so I’ll probably write something else highlighting the movies I liked.
Then there’s one more thing I’ll mention, I love to peel plastic off bottles for some reason, like the plastic seal on top of Crest mouthwash.
3. Have you ever been to a convention?
Yes, I’ve been to Toronto Comic Con which occurs every March. I haven’t gone in a couple of years due to school and work commitments though. Then there’s Fan Expo which is one of the biggest in Canada and much larger than the former. I am already looking at going to that again this year.
Finally there’s TFCon, a fan-run Transformers convention which is a lot more specific and intimate than the other two. However, if you’re not a collector of the action figures or a major cosplayer, there’s not much for you to do there other than socialize. While most goers were buying rare figures, I set my sights on the homemade trinkets I could afford like little necklaces and earrings with Autobots or Decepticons on them.
4. What would you rate 10 / 10?
What exactly is it that I’m supposed to rate? Is it a movie? TV series? Game?
No matter, I’ll give you something I rate 10/10. The first Pacific Rim movie. It combines my love for giant robots and monsters and brings in a war between them, plus a strong lead female, an epic soundtrack, and cool effects all in one.
Put all those things together and you get Pacific Rim. It will always be one of my favourite movies to this day.
5. When did you first realize you were a geek?
It was the moment I first watched Star Wars when I was very young and became fascinated with things like spaceships and Jedi. I loved it all instantly and was eager to discover more of that universe.
Another thing that made me realize it was when I started playing with my brother’s Bionicle figures almost every morning before school. He and I made it like a routine and eventually I started learning more about the Toa and Mata Nui and became engrossed.
Both those things were the beginning for me, and I’ve been a proud geek ever since.
6. What kind of art do you enjoy most?
There are many forms of art, but when it comes to art, I like the art of music.
You could say that is why I prefer to own my music compared to streaming it on whatever service, because music is an art to me. Someone put a lot of work to create a song for you to listen; whether they played an instrument or used a computer program.
Then that song makes it onto an album or the soundtrack for a movie and you can hear the beautiful melody, bass, vocals, etc. and you know that it’s something you can truly appreciate the effort that was put into to creating something as beautiful as it sounds, no matter the genre.
7. What city would you most like to live in?
I’m quite happy with where I’m living, but if things had to change due to job or financial demands, I guess it couldn’t hurt to relocate.
I will admit I love Toronto which is the closest large city to me, there’s lots to see there like the aquarium, the Eaton Center has just about everything in there, not to mention local concerts and conventions will always be nearby!
Unfortunately it’s quite expensive to live there so I don’t know if I’ll ever make it to affording it, but you never know what the future holds.
So those are my answers, now for my questions:
- Do you like your media digital or physical?
- If you could learn any type of dance, what would it be?
- What do you love most about being a geek?
- What’s the latest game you’ve got into?
- If you’re a Netflix user, what original series are you looking forward to?
- If you could have one thing only from your favourite movie(s) what would it be?
- What’s your favourite hobby that doesn’t involve a screen?
Now for the nominees:
