It’s funny you know that I’m writing about this, but as a gamerchic I might as well write about it anyway! I know that lots of people say that in RPG games and sometimes even shooting games they only enjoy the cut scenes and dialogues if they are playing through the game’s campaign for the first time and then when they do it the second time and more after that they just want to skip all that stuff and get straight back to playing again.
But sometimes for someone like me, I don’t always desire to skip that kind of stuff when playing because even talking with certain characters or just watching what happens can be exciting too!
For example you see Sovereign in the first Mass Effect game and you hear the sound of his deep voice and I think it’s almost exciting because it’s your first contact with an actual Reaper. Come on, who doesn’t enjoy hearing the scary sound of Sovereign when you see it for the first time?
“We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.”
Talking to Sovereign may not be the best example because it’s not a very long conversation so now I’ll give you a better example. I actually managed to make a commitment in playing Skyrim so I have and I went to speak to Paarthurnax this week (I will write more about my experience with Skyrim and more about why I like about Paarthurnax in a later entry) and I have to say that well…..Paarthurnax is awesome and I am proud to call him a good friend. Finally a dragon that I don’t have to kill, and I do not plan to join the Blades and do their quests because that will only lead to them wanting me to kill Paarthurnax. Trust me, I don’t think anyone wants to kill him! Unless they prefer Blades rather than Greybeards. Anyhoo yeah I talked to him and even though the conversation is REALLY long I think it’s one of the most epic parts of the main quest because for the first time you speak with a dragon that is wise and is on your side. Once I hear him speak all I want to do is just sit back and listen to what he has to say no matter how many times I’ve heard it. I like his voice too!

“Dov wahlaan fah rel. We were made to dominate. The will to power is in our blood. You feel it in yourself, do you not? I can be trusted. I know this. But they do not. Onikaan ni ov dovah. It is always wise to mistrust a dovah. I have overcome my nature only through meditation and long study of the Way of the Voice. No day goes by where I am not tempted to return to my inborn nature. Zin krif horvut se suleyk. What is better – to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?”
Haha I think I got a little carried away with sharing one of his quotes by putting multiple ones rather than just one! Don’t worry dear readers, since I am new to the world of Skyrim so I promise you I will write a helluva lot more about Paarthurnax, Alduin, my current play through (chances are I will have more than one soon as this is definitely a game I will want to play through again!) and all that other shit in general in a later entry so please stay tuned!
So there you have it, there are exciting things that can happen in video games besides fighting and killing. Sometimes talking to some characters whether it’s your worst enemy or a new ally it can just be as exciting as blood and gore in front of you. I know most of you think dialogues are boring but sometimes the words you can hear from them can get you sitting on the edge of the sofa wondering what’s gonna happen next, cause that’s how I feel sometimes when I’m speaking to characters in these games!
